How To Create Custom Boot Partition On Ubuntu 14.04/16.04/17.04 Server

Is this guide is very important for your ubuntu custom boot partition. When Ubuntu Server regularly update and boot size is full. Ubuntu Server defaults boot partition is 576MB. Now I will have to show you can easily configure your ubuntu 16.04 server boot partition.

Ubuntu Desktop Edition Minimum System Requirements

• 2 GHz dual core processor
• 2 GB RAM
• 25 GB of disk space
• VGA capable of 1024×768 screen resolution
• Installation iso or bootable pen-drive.

Ubuntu Server (CLI) Installation Minimum System Requirements

• 300 MHz x86 processor
• 256 MB RAM
• 1.5 GB of disk space
• Graphics card and monitor capable of 640×480
• Installation iso or bootable pen-drive.

Step #01: Step by step goto partition disk.

Partitioning method :

Select Manual option. Press Enter

Step #02: Guided partitioning

Select Virtual disk 1 (local) 53.7 GB Xen Virtual Block Device. Press Enter

Now see new window Create new empty partition table on this device?

Select <Yes>

Step #03: You can see Virtual disk 1 (local) 53.7 GB Xen Virtual Block Device. Press Enter

pri/log 53.7 GB   FREE SPACE

Select pri/log 53.7 GB   FREE SPACE

Step #04: Create root partition on your ubuntu 16.04 Server

How to use this free space:

Select Create a new partition. Press Enter

Type your New partition size:

My select size 50.7 GB then press Enter

Type for the new partition: Primary

Location for the new partition : Beginning 

Partition settings: Mount point /

Select Done setting up the partition. Press Enter

Step #05: Create boot partition  on your ubuntu 16.04 Server

Again select pri/log 3.0 GB FREE SPACE

Select Create a new partition. Press Enter

Type your New partition size:

My select size 1.0 GB then press Enter

Type for the new partition: Primary

Location for the new partition : Beginning 

Partition settings: Mount point  /home

Press Enter and see new popup window then select /boot – static files of the boot loader. Press Enter

Select Done setting up the partition. Press Enter

Step #06: Create swap area partition  on your ubuntu 16.04 Server

Again select pri/log 2.0 GB FREE SPACE

Select Create a new partition. Press Enter

Type your New partition size:

My select size 1.0 GB then press Enter

Type for the new partition: Primary

Location for the new partition : Beginning 

Partition settings: Mount point /home

Press Enter and see new popup window then select Swap area. Press Enter

Select Done setting up the partition. Press Enter

Step #06: Create home partition  on your ubuntu 16.04 Server

Select Create a new partition. Press Enter

My select size 986.7 MB then press Enter

Type for the new partition: Primary

Location for the new partition : Beginning 

Partition settings: Mount point /home

Select Done setting up the partition. Press Enter

Finally select Finish partitioning and write changes to disk.

 Step #07: Write the change to disk?

Select <Yes> Press Enter

Step #08: Install the GRUB boot loader to the master boot record:

Select <Yes> Press Enter

Configuring cryptsetup Select <continue> Press Enter and remove your installation media then reboot your machine.
